In Hard Times, No More Fancy Pants

In case you missed it, Alex Williams wrote an interesting article for the Fashion & Style section of last Friday's New York Times.

We've been saying it since we opened our doors a little over two years ago. Not until the fashion media jettison's the singular idea of exclusionary, luxury fashion meant for a limited few, and adopts a more inclusionary attitude and posture...will we see a rebound of the advertising and fashion industries and the return of the value driven consumer. While our belief is that "luxury" is an important aspect of the fashion industry, we are hesitant to buy into the idea that it should define the industry as a whole. Rocket Garage talent has always been, and continues to be a great value for those companies savvy enough to understand the notion of building equity with a broader demographic.

"WHILE fashion is always headed in three directions, consumers are turning away from disposable style — the overdesigned “it” handbag, for example — toward high-quality pieces that will endure over multiple seasons, said David Wolfe, creative director of the Doneger Group, which forecasts fashion and retail trends."
